    Wow! So much has happened...

So much has happened since the last time I posted.  I am no longer at Kimball.  The district has a policy that a sub is not allowed to stay at one job longer than 60 days.  My 60th day was November 20.  At first I was very upset.  We really need the income that the steady job provided.  I also really enjoyed the job.  When I first took this long term sub position, I was told that it would be posted so I just figured that I would have the opportunity to apply for the job before the time ran out.  But, that didn't happen.  The job may or may not be posted.  Right now the powers that be are saying semester break.  So, I could still possibly be back at Kimball this school year yet!

In the mean time, I am on another long term.  This one is homebound.  I have only worked 2 days and met all the students on my caseload except one.  These are students that according to a physician can not attend school for one reason or another.  I have really enjoyed it so far.  The students that I am working with are great and so are the parents.  This position is also going to be posted.  While I am subbing in it, it is 3 days a week.  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  As a regular position it is 50% or 2 & 1/2 days a week.  In either case I can sub the other 2 days.  So I can still get in a full week.  The other girl said that she has had no trouble picking up jobs for those 2 other days.

So, that is where I am at as far as a job goes.  God is providing.  Once I decided to quit trying to figure out how we were going to manage when my job at Kimball ended and gave it completely to Him, He provided a job to start the very next day!

  • I made it through MEAP!!  It actually wasn't too bad, it is just that I was not able to do my normal schedule during MEAP since I tested most of the kids one-on-one.  It just seemed like I was testing constantly.  My schedule finally gets back to normal this week.

The Sparlingville job went to someone else.  I am OK with that.  I would rather stay at Kimball, but I want a full time "actual" teacher job.  The thing that bothers me the most about the whole thing is that the principal at Sparlingville told me that she would let me know who she decided to hire.  I still have not heard from her.  In fact my principal knew for a few days before I found out.  She kept waiting for me to say something to her about not getting the job and she finally came to me.  She was quite upset about the way it was handled.  When she talked to them in Human Resources, they said they would send me a letter.  She knew it would take a while for them to get out a letter.  It actually took 2 weeks before I "officially" heard!

  • Updates

Since it has been awhile, I decided I should update everyone on my job situation.  I did have an interview for a resource room position at Sparlingville Elementary.  The principal was not able to attend the interview, so she wanted to interview each of us this past week.  I think that both interviews went quite well.  There is a sub in the position right now and the principal said that she is pleased with her work.  But, she did say that she wants the best person for the job which could be that girl, or me, or the other person who interviewed.  The principal said that she would let me know her decision once she was able to interview the third person.  She had hoped it would be by Friday, but it doesn't look like that happened.  I am still waiting.  In the meantime, I have also applied for and 8th grade resource room position at Chippewa.  That posting ended Friday, so they should start interviewing soon.

My job at Kimball is going very well.  We still have not heard anything about whether the job will be posted and when.  The principal seems to be pleased with my work.  She did call the Sparlingville principal to ask if I did get the job, if I could stay at Kimball until MEAP was finished.  She would like me to stay at Kimball, but will not stand in my way of getting a job at another school.  She totally understands my desire to have a job.

Dennis has been very busy singing.  He is gone again this weekend singing.  Tonight he is in Britton, MI (where ever that is!) and tomorrow at Port Huron Assembly of God. Usually this time of year he is gone hunting.  He has been singing so much that he hasn't gotten much chance to go hunting.  He also hasn't taken time off like he usually does because we just can't afford it.

    The first week...

I made it through the first week.  I spent my week scheduling students, changing schedules, meeting teachers and students, and as Dennis would say,"sucking up to the principal!"  Since the principal has final say as to who is hired in her building, I have been doing my best to please her.  I helped her the first day of school direct students and parents to classrooms, I helped get students off of buses and lined up to come into school, and anything else she asked me to do.  I am really enjoying this job and I would really like to have it.

I do have a prayer request.  Pray for my feet and my knees.  I have a classroom on the second floor and I go into classroom most of the day.  Most of these classrooms are on the first floor.  Even with trying to group classroom times together, I go up and down the stairs a minimum of 5 times a day.  This is really rough on my knees.  By yesterday I was in so much pain that I came home and took a pain pill and didn't go shopping like I usually do on Friday nights.  I am still sore today, but at least I can move.

  • A job?!?

Here is another case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.  Port Huron Area Schools called me Monday, there was a long term sub job at Port Huron High School in a Resource Room available if I was interested.  I said yes.  So, I was supposed to go to the meeting at McMorran on Wed. and then to the school for meetings.  Tuesday, they called back.  That job was taken.  But, there was a job at Kimball in the Resource Room that I could have.  So, I went to the meetings on Wed and went to the school and met with the principal.  I also spent time in the classroom.  The teacher that had this position took a job at the administration building as a Teacher Consultant.  She planned to spend Thursday with me helping me with scheduling students and stuff.  When she came in Thurs. she told me that Wed. afternoon they told her that her job was temporary.  It has to be posted.  But, she can apply and possibly get the job.  If she gets that job, then the job I have will be posted internally and only teachers can apply.  Then it will be posted outside and I can apply.  But, if she does not get the job, she will be coming back to her old job. My job

So, this is where I am right now.  I am enjoying the fact that I am starting out the school year in a classroom.  How long I will be there?  Who knows!  I am praying for favor.  She will get to keep the Teacher Consultant job and I will be able to apply for the Resource Room position and they will give the job to me!!!
